One of the key activities of the CzechInvest agency is to support the startup environment in the Czech Republic focused on modern and innovative technologies. To this end, it manages and further develops a database of technology startups with which it actively works and supports their development through the Technology Incubation programme. The partnership with CEPS will increase technological know-how and connect the state-owned transmission system operator with the startup ecosystem.

“The goal of the CzechInvest agency and the so-called sectoral “hubs” is to connect high-tech startups with key players in strategic areas such as energy. CzechInvest’s partnership with CEPS is a great opportunity to support innovation in the energy sector and at the same time develop our startup ecosystem. Thanks to our cooperation, we can facilitate the transfer of the latest technological solutions to innovative companies that can use them effectively,” said Jan Michal, Director General of the CzechInvest agency.

The cooperation will take place mainly within the so-called EcoTech Hub, which supports the development of startups in the field of sustainability and at the same time mediates Czech and foreign know-how, technology and capital in the field of eco-innovation, circular economy and energy sector. Specifically, it will be about scouting innovative solutions, using the structures and tools of the CzechInvest agency (hackathons, demos) and connecting to other actors in the startup ecosystem and representatives of scientific research institutions.

ČEPS has planned investments of approximately CZK 8 billion per year in this decade. Investments will focus on modernising lines or transformers, as well as strengthening the electricity transmission system for the expected expansion of renewable energy sources. As part of its support for digitalization and innovation, CEPS is thus striving for smarter and more interactive energy systems using the latest technologies.

“We believe that the cooperation with CzechInvest will open the door to new professional contacts and thanks to the use of established tools and participation in individual events we will have the opportunity to learn about the best examples of practice in the field and to be inspired by new procedures and methods,” said Pavel Vágner, Director of Business Development and PMO of CEPS.

Technology Incubation is an ambitious project of the CzechInvest agency, which focuses on supporting start-ups in the Czech Republic. The aim is to find and help the creation of companies/projects that are exceptionally innovative, feasible and scalable. Technology Incubation targets startups in seven strategic areas: mobility, artificial intelligence, eco-tech, space technology, tech4life, advanced technologies and materials, and creative industries.

The joint-stock company CEPS operates in the Czech Republic as the exclusive transmission system operator and provides services related to ensuring the balance between the production and consumption of electricity in real time (system services). The company has also been actively involved in shaping the liberalised electricity market in the Czech Republic and Europe for a long time.
