The CzechInvest Agency and the transmission system operator ČEPS continue their strategic partnership. After last year’s successful linking of the state-owned company with technology start-ups, the cooperation will now focus on the use of space technologies for grid security and on the intensified involvement of the R&D Hub in cooperation with top research centres.
The partnership between the two institutions is based on a clear foundation: to find innovative technology solutions for a strategic enterprise and to enable startups to test their ideas in real-life operations. CEPS is currently in talks to deploy advanced non-destructive infrastructure diagnostics and has been looking for applications for highly durable concrete elements with the Technology Incubation Programme team.
“The transmission system is undergoing a fundamental transformation and we need innovations that work not only on paper but also in practice. Cooperation with CzechInvest allows us to scout the market effectively and test new solutions quickly. This year we want to go even further and focus on how space technology and accurate satellite data can help us monitor vegetation and increase the overall resilience of our network, for example.” says Pavel Vágner, Director of Business Development and PMO at CEPS.
The use of satellite data in the energy sector was the main topic of the March CEPS EXPO conference . Validation interviews with individual departments of the company will now follow, on the basis of which CzechInvest will launch targeted technology scouting. This will culminate in a dedicated Demo Day this autumn .
In addition to startups, the cooperation will also focus more on connecting with universities and research organisations through the R&D Hub of CzechInvest, which will help solve more demanding calls for technology, for example in the development of new materials and working with large volumes of data.
“ČEPS is an absolutely key partner for technology startups and the academic sector. Our task is to connect these two worlds and translate their needs. Successful projects from the first year clearly prove that Czech innovative solutions have a huge potential to stand in such a critical infrastructure as the national transmission system. Our goal is to build a long-term sustainable ecosystem that will support the competitiveness of the entire Czech energy sector,” adds Filip Krůta, Director of the Innovation Department of the CzechInvest Agency.
Czech Innovation Hub
The CzechInvest Agency, through the Czech Innovation Hub ( CIH) platform and the Technology Incubation programme, supports innovative start-ups and companies on their journey from idea to practice. It offers connections with industry and experts, mentoring, networking and training. It also provides financial and expert support to selected startups without losing equity. Thanks to its individual approach, it acts as an effective “venture building” tool that accelerates the transfer of innovations in technology to the market.
The program will feature investor conferences, demo days, pitching sessions for investors, matchmaking and networking, expert lectures and workshops, as well as events focused on defense and dual-use technologies.
