125 startups applied for the fourth call of the Technology Incubation project. The CzechInvest Agency plans to support approximately fifty of them with CZK 118 million. CZK.
The Technology Incubation project has been running for over two years. During that time, over 1 247 startups have applied for pre-incubation (as of 17 July) and a total of four calls for projects have been announced, with 606 applications from 483 startups. Within the first three calls we are working with 137 startups and we will know more after the evaluation of applications from the fourth call, which was announced in May this year.
While in the first two calls the trio of AI, Creative and EcoTech enjoyed the greatest interest, the order changed in the third and fourth calls thanks to the opening of additional supported areas. Startups in the field of health and safety were the most interested, followed by AI startups and creative industries.
Specific results show 31 applications from health and safety startups, 30 from artificial intelligence, 22 from the creative industries sector, 19 from eco-innovation startups, 16 from mobility startups and seven from the advanced materials sector.
“The fourth challenge brought a large number of applications in the area of health and safety, as well as seven applications in the area of advanced materials. In the future, we hope that the number of startups in this area will increase, which we are trying to help with, for example, the Quantum Hackathon and the second annual Quantum day conference, which showed that the Czech Republic can be a strong player in quantum technologies that fall into this sector,” says Tereza Kubicová, Deputy for Technology Development at CzechInvest, and adds: “However, it is not easy to create such startups or projects, which is why our pre-incubation managers are available to help with the preparation of the application for our project.”
The next challenge will be announced during the fall. All interested start-ups can apply for a year-long pre-incubation, where they will be assigned a consultant who will help the company prepare its application and, if interested, connect it to relevant scientific and commercial partners. The area of space technology, which is another area of the Technology Incubation project, is supported by CzechInvest through a combination of two projects – Technology Incubation and theESA BIC Czech Republic Incubator, and the amount of the subsidy has been increased to EUR 200,000 thanks to Technology Incubation. The call for space startups is currently open until 5. September this year. More details can be found on the Space Incubator website.
The Technology Incubation project is implemented with financial support from the state budget through the Ministry of Industry and Trade in The Country for the Future programme and represents a major investment in the future of Czech industry. Over five years, it expects to support more than 250 innovative startups with approximately CZK 680 million in seven key areas.
