As part of this year’s AI Days, the CzechInvest agency and its Technology Incubation project together with Startup Kitchen organized the AI Startup Pitch Contest. Its aim was to support innovative ideas and to recognize the work of startups working with artificial intelligence. Almost a hundred spectators gathered in Prague. The event also aimed to connect venture investors with regional startups and partners.
The Pitch Contest took place in four cities – Brno, Pilsen, Ostrava and Prague. Participants were given the opportunity to present their startup or idea in front of the jury and thus gain valuable feedback and experience. The event was held under the auspices of the AI Hub of the Technology Incubation project, which incubates projects focusing on innovative solutions in the field of artificial intelligence.
When we were approached by the organizers of last year’s event with an offer to become more actively involved in the AI Days organizing team, we didn’t hesitate for a minute. Both prg.ai and Brno.AI are doing an amazing job and I am delighted to see how active partners we have found in regional innovation centres thanks to AI Days. When Startup Kitchen came on board our event, there was nothing to worry about. The event to support startups perfectly complemented the programme in all cities. At CzechInvest, we were then able to offer participation to startups registered in the Technology Incubation programme. Over the last year and a half, there have been roughly a thousand startup ideas, a large number of which are focused on AI.” explains Matouš Kostlivý, director of the AI Hub of the Technology Incubation project.
In Brno, the first place was taken by ARBO Technologies, a startup that collects data on non-forest greenery using an app. A total of 10 startups with 35 registered representatives pitched here. In Pilsen, the startup Tolgee won among 7 competitors with its software translation solution. The winner of the Ostrava competition was the OpinioAI project with its research platform using artificial intelligence. The most successful stop was Prague, where 91 people registered for the event and 21 startups were presented on stage. The winner was CCFLOW, a company that improves voicebot technology.
“When Matouš Kostlivý came up with the idea for the AI Pitch Contest, we didn’t hesitate for long. It made sense for us to look around the Czech Republic to see how great AI projects are being created here. We are happy that 7 Czech venture capital funds were involved with us, thanks to which each city had a different jury, and so the projects could be presented to different investors and get many times more feedbacks. We were also surprised by the record turnout not only of the competing startups, but also of the spectators, so many of whom came to the Prague event that we had to find a larger venue.” says Tomáš Cironis from Startup Kitchen, who participated in the organisation of the competitions in the regions.
The whole competition was very demanding in terms of organization and would not have been possible without our regional partners, who deserve a big thank you, they were among them: Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre, JIC Brno, BIC Plzeň and the City of Prague, which under the auspices of Daniel Mazura, councillor and alderman, provided the beautiful premises of the Glam Galas Palace for the final and biggest round of the competition. Thanks also go to Sparring for its financial support of the competition. CzechInvest participated in the organization of the AI Startup Pitch Contest with Startup Kitchen, the whole event was then set in the AI Days festival, which prg.ai and Brno.AI, key players of the innovation ecosystem in the Czech Republic, with whom CzechInvest has been cooperating for a long time, helped to integrate into the Czech innovation hub.
