Quantum technologies are gaining stronger support in the Czech Republic

Quantum technologies are gradually moving from research laboratories to real-world applications and are becoming one of the areas that can significantly influence the future competitiveness of both companies and nations. This is one of the reasons why the Czech Republic plans to provide systematic support for these technologies.

In 2025, the Czech government approved the National Strategy for Quantum Technologies , and the Ministry of Industry and Trade is currently coordinating the preparation of an update to the strategy to reflect developments in the Czech quantum ecosystem as well as new European initiatives. One of the strategy’s measures is also to support startups and spin-offs focused on quantum technologies and their broader application in the business sector. The preparatory phase is scheduled to last until the end of 2026, with implementation set for the period from 2027 to 2031.

As part of this initiative, promising projects emerging from both academic and industrial settings—with the potential to succeed in the market—will be actively sought out. Their development will be supported by collaboration with regional innovation centers, which will help create an environment conducive to the establishment of new companies across the Czech Republic, as well as by activities aimed at promoting the use of quantum technologies among companies of all sizes through outreach, roundtables, workshops, training sessions, or technology scouting. By 2031, at least 15 startups and spin-offsutilizing quantum technologies should be supported. At the same time, the plan is to organize at least two strategic events per year focused on promoting the use of quantum technologies in companies.

We are part of the working group tasked with updating the national quantum strategy

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has begun preparing an update to the National Strategy for Quantum Technologies 2026+ with the aim of connecting research, government, and industry. This working group also includes the Technology Incubation project, which helps develop the Czech quantum ecosystem and its commercial potential. You can find the full article about the group’s first meeting here.

Quantum Technologies in Technology Incubation

Within the Technology Incubation program, quantum technologies fall under the Advanced Tech & Materials Hub, one of the project’s seven specialized hubs. Its goal is not only to support startups but also to develop the entire ecosystem and connect key players from the fields of research, business, and investment. One of the activities focused on developing the Czech quantum ecosystem is, for example, Quantum Day, a conference on trends, research, and innovations shaping the future of the Czech quantum ecosystem, co-organized by CzechInvest, the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), IBM, and ITS. This year’s conference will take place in late November in Brno.

Through its hubs, the technology incubation program has supported 259 innovative projects to date. With a total budget of 758 million crowns, the program is now in its sixth year of contributing to the development of technology startups and strengthening the Czech innovation ecosystem in areas with high innovation potential.
