This year, the European Space Agency’s incubator ESA BIC will select more start-ups to receive financial and technical assistance to get their business off the ground. Thanks to the link with the Technology Incubation project, newly selected projects can receive support of up to EUR 200,000 instead of the current EUR 50,000. Both programmes are administered by the CzechInvest agency.

“By linking the two programmes, we can increase the support of the European Space Agency with national resources and make the development of innovative companies in the Czech Republic as efficient as possible. In addition, space startups will gain access to our entire startup network and the space sector will be even more connected to other sectors we are working on in the Technology Incubation. These include mobility and Tech4Life, which includes both defence and health,” explains Tereza Kubicová, deputy for technological development of the CzechInvest agency.

The increase in the financial contribution for startups, which thanks to the connection with the Technology Incubation project can reach the so-called Incubation PLUS, is another step of the CzechInvest agency to support the space industry with the aim of making the Czech Republic one of the leading innovative countries in this area. CzechInvest is also part of the Czech Space Team, which, among other things, organises the annual festival of space activities Czech Space Week. Last year, it also launched the Space Hub Technology Incubation, which also supports the space sector ecosystem in the Czech Republic.

The European Space Agency’s incubator ESA BIC Czech Republic has been providing support to Czech companies developing or innovatively using space technologies for eight years. These can be hardware and software solutions for applications in space, new uses of existing space technology on Earth, or innovative processing of satellite data. ESA BIC has supported over fifty startups during its presence in the Czech Republic. Their products are used in areas as diverse as agriculture, urban planning, aviation, fishing and tourism.

Entrepreneurs can submit their ideas until 22. March 2024. The first step to applying for incubation is an individual business plan consultation, during which the ESA BIC team will help each applicant with the preparation of the application. More information on the incubation process and a link to register for the consultation is available on the ESA BIC website.
