One of the key activities of the CzechInvest agency is the development of the startup environment in the Czech Republic. For example, it supports young progressive companies through an ambitious project Technological Incubation, an integral part of which is building a robust contact network and connecting start-up founders with established Czech companies. A total of 8 startups therefore met with representatives of the state transmission system operator on 10 September 2025 as part of a closed demo day ČEPS.
“The event is the culmination of our year-long collaboration and a demonstration of how startups can be a valuable partner for the modern energy industry. We believe that connecting the startup environment with our company’s practice will open the way to new technological innovations ,” says Pavel Vágner, Director of Business Development and PMO at CEPS, about the strategic partnership.”We were very impressed by the variety of projects presented – from sustainable construction to cyber security to detailed weather forecasts. Individual discussions confirmed that some of the solutions have the potential to be used in practice. Now we have the most important part – moving the selected projects to their actual implementation ,” adds Pavel Vágner.
During the demo day , the startups BETONEXT Production, Recon Wave Agent, Mercury MS, P&O Robotics, Penterep Security, Tempest Labs AI, Qeedio and RUTiGO were presented . BETONEXT Production a Qeedio are already part of Technology Incubation.
“The connection with ČEPS through the Technology Incubation project has opened the way for possible cooperation in a new market segment. In addition to the opportunity to present our solution, we gained valuable insight into the operations of the exclusive Czech transmission system operator, which now allows us to further develop our product in a targeted manner ,” comments Jiří Krňávek from the startup BETONEXT Production.
The final showcase was preceded by a long-term preparation of CzechInvest representatives, the aim of which was to get acquainted in detail with the key technological challenges and requirements for innovation demand. “During our year-long collaboration, we consulted with experts across departments – from dispatch to energy market analysts to cybersecurity. We then scouted innovative solutions inside and outside the Technology Incubation database, mostly from the ecotech, AI and space technology sectors. Out of a total of 140 startups, 16 candidates that best met the client’s requirements made it to the final selection ,” adds Partnership Manager Roman Ruffer, under whose leadership, together with EcoTech Hub Director Filip Kruta, the cooperation took place.
CEPS has planned investments worth more than CZK 8 billion per year over the next decade. The main focus will be on the duplication of lines in existing routes, the construction of substations including transformers, as well as the renewal of older lines. The main objective of these investments is to ensure a reliable supply of electricity at a time when the structure of electricity production is changing significantly. As part of digitisation and innovation, CEPS is therefore striving for smarter and more interactive energy systems using the latest technologies.
